Importance of Keeping to our Environmental Commitment

JCWs Corporate Responsibility to the Environment

At JCW, we recognise the impact of our operations on the environment. We are committed to minimising this impact and adhering to strict environmental targets. Additionally, we ensure that the products and parts we use align with our sustainability objectives.

Our Policy:

JCW operates in accordance with internationally recognised standards for environmental and energy management, including ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. From our offices to our field engineers and across our clients' portfolios, we promote best practices to maintain sustainability at all levels.

Senior management is responsible for the ongoing promotion and review of our environmental policy. Our Managing Director, Kurt Hedgley, along with QHSE Consultant Rob Hughes, oversees its development and implementation. Senior managers within each division ensure that environmental standards are upheld throughout the organisation.

To raise awareness and drive continuous improvement, JCW conducts regular Manager Training Days focused on environmental issues. Our Environmental Policy is fully communicated across the company, with senior managers holding cascade meetings to ensure their teams understand and adhere to our objectives. We also extend our policy and targets to subcontractors, aligning their practices with our commitment to sustainability. Regular audits and digital solutions help us enhance our environmental performance, reduce our footprint, and achieve ambitious sustainability goals.

Environmental initiatives

To mitigate our environmental impact, JCW has implemented several initiatives, including:

Procurement:

  • We prioritise environmentally responsible waste management practices.

  • Suppliers must use recycled or recyclable packaging materials, and we recycle as much waste packaging as possible.

Waste Recovery:

  • All used goods recovered from sites are returned to suppliers or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.

Recommended Equipment:

  • We prioritise sourcing energy-efficient air conditioning systems that align with the latest environmental standards.

  • Our in-house accredited TM44 Energy Inspectors help clients identify ways to reduce their carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency.

Training:

  • Engineers are F-gas trained to prevent refrigerant leaks and prioritise resolving gas leak issues.

  • Reclaimed refrigerant is tracked and safely disposed of through certified providers.

  • All employees receive quality and environmental training, with induction training for new staff and regular refresher courses to ensure ongoing competence.

  • Our strong employee retention is supported by long-service awards presented by a board director at company events.

Our Products:

At JCW, we ensure our products adhere to strict environmental standards. All of our HVAC installations use the latest ozone-friendly refrigerants and energy-efficient inverter technology, which can reduce energy consumption by up to 30%. We also conduct rigorous pressure testing in line with British Standards to prevent leaks.

As a Mitsubishi Diamond Quality Partner, we meet high technical and environmental standards, gaining access to exclusive training, software updates, and new technologies. In addition, we help businesses optimise their lighting systems, reducing energy consumption through efficient fittings, bulbs, and automatic switch-off devices.

Ensuring Compliance:

Our energy assessors inspect air-conditioning systems in compliance with the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

  • We ensure compliance with the EU F-Gas regulation, with qualified engineers maintaining refrigerant systems to the latest standards.

  • As members of REFCOM and the voluntary BESA scheme, we hold various certifications confirming our responsible refrigerant handling and disposal practices.
