Building Relationships with Main Contractors

In our last blog - Trusted Maintenance Service Provider to Higher Education, we looked at how developing a long standing relationship with our customer led to winning a very important maintenance contract with the University of Plymouth. In this blog we want to share another example of how working closely, this time with one of our main contractors, led to us being called in to help in an emergency on the hottest weekend of the summer. Read on to find out more…

The relationship

Our Bristol based Contracts Manager, Julian, has known Ben Newman (National Account Manager for CBRE) for a number of years. Their relationship developed while working on the St James Place Wealth Management (SJP) contract together with JCW providing them air conditioning maintenance services. Ben and Julian are in regular contact with regard to this contract and when a colleague of Ben’s (Jeff Walker, Engineering Supervisor) required urgent assistance for a different client and asked for a suitable company to assist, Ben put our name forward.

How things panned out…

Friday 16th July to Sunday 18th July

Jeff contacted Julian following a recommendation from Ben to see if JCW can help them out with a server room in Exeter where all three air conditioning systems had failed and the temperatures were rising to 30 degrees C due to the heatwave. Although this particular site was not under any service or callout contract with JCW we jumped on the enquiry immediately to help out CBRE. Our on call engineer attended site within hours of Jeff’s request as well as returning to site on the Saturday and Sunday to set up as many portable air conditioning systems as practical to try to reduce the room temperature and prevent the clients server equipment failing.

Monday 19th July

JCW engineers returned to site and carried out extensive pressure testing of all three systems, finally confirming that leaks were present on the condenser coils. We then provided the client with quotations to replace the three leaking coils or to replace all three complete systems with new, of which CBRE instructed the latter.

Wednesday 21st July to Friday 23rd July

We returned to site, decommissioned the three old air conditioning systems and replaced them with new Daikin R32 units. All three new systems were up and running by Friday morning, the room cooled down and maintained 20 degrees centigrade and the portable units were removed from site.

Julian added “When I received the call from Jeff I soon understood how urgent the situation was, and was confident that JCW had the resources to support him. Our engineers were fantastic throughout, providing regular updates to myself and the client from the setting up of the portable units through to the completion of the new installation. I am also grateful to Ben for recommending our services to his colleague Jeff and that we able to deliver the works so efficiently for CBRE and their client”.

Ben of CBRE said “Although JCWES has delivered great service to SJP/CBRE over the years, it is always a worry when you recommend a supplier to another manager in another part of the country, so thank you to all the team at JCWES for your continued support, flexibility and outstanding service.”

Testimonial

Jeff was so happy with the quick response and quality of work that JCW provided that he was also happy to leave this fantastic testimonial for us with Ben:

“Thank you for putting me in touch with JCW last week. Julian and his team provided an outstanding service with call outs and support over the weekend of 16th -18th July.

They provided portable units to get us out of trouble over the hot weekend and their engineer attended Friday, Saturday and Sunday to help us out.

Last week they provided a quote to replace all three AC units in the server room and had them installed and up and running by Friday.

I have spoken to Julian, several times in the past week and he must dread seeing my number come up on his phone now, and said that I would let you know of the great service they provided to us, so thanks again for putting me in touch.”

Conclusion

We have formed a solid relationship with Ben and CBRE over the years and knowing that our efforts are fully appreciated means so much to JCW. To consolidate this relationship we also supported CBRE in their bid to raise money to construct a disability ramp at the SJP Memorial Gardens. We were very happy to donate and the ramp construction has recently been completed. We look forward to having our company name proudly included on a plaque that will be placed at the site.
